Greetings from Down Under!

WE ARE IN AUSTRALIAAA!!!!!! (….and still can’t believe it!)

It is pretty cool and unreal at the same time that we are already on the other side of the world – further and further away from home. Not long ago we enjoyed the sun in the Philippines and now we arrived in the middle of winter in Melbourne. Guess that’s the awesome thing about travelling – jump into an airplane and some hours later you are not only in another country and timezone, but also in a completely different season. Isn’t that crazy if you think about it?

So what can we say so far about Australia. Beside that we didn’t get any stamp in our passport (I mean…what the fuck?!!) we really enjoy the country and it’s extremely chilled people so far. Everywhere you go you meet people who have time for a talk and care about you. It doesn’t matter if it is in a supermarket when you wait in the queue, on the street when you ask for the way or somewhere else. Even if the people are in a rush, they will always find some time to talk or either help you. The people here are super chilled and we really love the whole lifestyle in Melbourne. The restaurants, the bars, the AMAZING coffee, the graffiti, the beach, the skyline – we love it! When it wouldn’t be soooo expensive we would really think about to move to this lovely city, but I guess for that our salary is a little bit too low 😅

Nevertheless we really enjoyed our time in Melbourne so far where our couchsurfers definitely played a big part of it. As we didn’t find a collaboration in Melbourne we made the decision to at least get in touch with some locals through couchsurfing to explore the city in a different way – and this was definitely the right decision!

From an apartment in the 47th floor of Melbourne’s biggest building, the Eureka Tower, where we had the best view over whole Melbourne and shared some amazing travel stories with our host Anders, to our first “share house” experience at a community called “Crunchytown”, where we had one of our craziest and unforgettable times with people from all over the world! Thanks to everybody who made this time so special for us!

Next to that we also made the decision to go on a small road trip towards “The Great Ocean Road” last weekend. We were really lucky with the weather and I guess it couldn’t have been much better! The nature, the beaches, the lovely people we met along the way, the street next to the ocean AND also the kangaroos and koalas we saw during the trip! We had the perfect weekend and because we enjoyed it so much we also made the spontaneous decision to join a helicopter flight over “The Twelve Apostles” and hell yeah, it was amazing 😊

We also used the free time on our small road trip to plan our next stops in Australia and therefore we also had to make a decision: What do we want to see from Australia? (Because the country is HUGE and we can’t see everything in five weeks – that’s for sure 😊)

Of course, in the beginning we thought of travelling to Uluru or the Great Barrier Reef. But when you travel for such a long time and also want to work together with local companies, you have to set priorities. Beside that, we experienced during our whole journey, that it’s not about all the sightseeing things you can see in each country, it’s about the people you meet along the way and also the experiences you make every day. Because of that we will take the opportunity and will head straight to Sydney for our next upcoming collaboration. We are super excited about the whole project and can’t wait to tell you more about it.

So stay tuned for our next blog post – we are already looking forward to the rest of our upcoming time in Aussie! 😊

Cheers,
Melanie & Philipp

Another amazing experience so far: Joining a helicopter flight at “The Twelve Apostles”.
