Final Flights: Booked!

By January 19, 2017Austria

We did it! All flights are finally booked and in about one week, Melanie is already going to jump into the first plane heading to Tanzania. So while she will already enjoy some sun and meet an old friend, I will follow her steps about one week later and head to Dubai for our first experience exchange (more about that in an upcoming blog post) on the 1st of February before we will finally meet after ten days in South Africa again!

So while all flights are booked now, we just thought it might be the perfect time to answer your most asked question so far:

“How much do you pay for the whole trip around the world?”

What may sound easy to answer, is actually quite tricky to calculate and may always start with an answer like: “It depends…”

While it is quite easy to start with the expenses for all flight tickets and the insurance, it gets a little bit more tricky as soon as you go into details (specific costs per country, visas, special equipment, vaccinations, international driver license, rental cars, public transportation, sightseeing, …)

So for now, we decided to give you at least an overview of our basic flight expenses and the travel insurance that will cover us for one year around the world…

Total amount of flights per person: 15 (for now)
Flight expenses Philipp: 3745,53€ (without insurance)
Flight expenses Melanie: 4132,16€ (without insurance)
Insurance Philipp: 1019,00€ (the older you are, the higher the rate)
Insurance Melanie: 789,00€ (Melanie is obviously lucky because of her age)
Most expensive flight: 418,12€ (from Hong Kong to Manila)
Least expensive flight: 109,29€ (from Mumbai to Varanasi | India)

To call some average numbers, we will pay around 200-300€ per flight, 2€ for our insurance per day and will approximately sit around 81 hours in 15 different airplanes all around the world. An adventure, we definitely can’t wait to finally get started 🙂

So if you have any further questions or are curious about anything else, don’t hesitate to reach out and we are more than happy to come back to you and your question.

Cheers, Philipp

Ps: Thank you STA-Travel and especially Sabine for making things happen!
